Excel Corner

Excel is one of the wonderful applications, especially for people who deal with numbers. All of us have been using Excel since long and all of us gain proficiency as time passes. My passion for Excel started around 12 years ago when MS Office 97 was in place. Thereafter there have been many versions released for MS Office , 2000, 2003 and 2007 and my passion kept on growing. Although I still feel there is a lot to learn, I also feel there can be lots of sharing too and that’s a reason for coming up with this page.

While nowadays its common to mention “proficiency” in Excel in the resume, still there are times when people use it as a publishing software (that helps them format and take out beautiful print-outs) rather than utilizing the functional capabilities of Excel. I happen to observe some people who deemed themselves good at Excel, that they were using hand held calculator instead of inserting formulas in cells.

Therefore I felt that there should be a full dedicated page for Excel and improving our proficiency therein.

Here you can post your questions for which we shall try to come up with answers. Most of the times, if we are trying to do something, Excel has already taken care of it and got some built in function in some way. Since we are not aware of that function, we use the longer and repetitive methods for tasks/calculations that can be simplified. However, there are times when we discovered a function/formula that made our work easier. You can also share those tips here.

In short, this page is dedicated for:

• Sharing Excel best practices. Any practice/tip/formula/function that you discovered and that made your life easy.
• Sharing Excel problems/questions/issues. These are things that we think could improve our proficiency if we knew there was a shorter way of doing these.
• Sharing Excel related learning resources, that could be beneficial to varying level of users.

I believe that only when we start sharing what we have, we know how wealthy we are!!
